WHEN EVERY SECOND COUNTS...
Vigilence Solves Crime
In Greenlane, during a Green Reflector patrol, a Matrix Security
officer noticed a parked vehicle with a passenger side door lock
missing. The vehicle had occupants inside who were sleeping.
The 24 x 7 Matrix Security call centre were advised and a report
was made to the Police. The registration identified the car as
stolen and a Police unit was dispatched. The male and female
inside the car were taken into custody and the owner of the
vehicle was subsequently informed.

A dangerous practice
It is extremely dangerous to leave a
child or animal in a car, even for a few
minutes, during these hot summer
months. Heat coming in through the
windows is absorbed by the interior,
and the glass acts as an insulator. This
can push the heat up to dangerous
levels very quickly.
Never leave children or pets in a
closed car. It doesn't take much for
heat stroke to set in, or worse.
Small children and animals are not
able to open a window or open a door
like an adult can. They may be very
quiet as heat increases, so there may
not be crying or other audible
indications of trouble.
Opening the window slightly does
not help. It doesn't necessarily prevent
the temperature in the car from rising,
especially if it's a still day, or if the car
is sheltered from the wind by buildings
or other vehicles. Leaving children and
pets inside a closed car, or even one
with the windows rolled down, is
dangerous, deadly and illegal.
Report children or pets in hot cars to
the police immediately by calling 111.
The summer months also mean
people leaving their vehicles at popu-
lar summer spots, such as the beach,
park or reserve are at risk of becoming
victims of theft.
To reduce your own chances of
becoming a victim of theft, don't leave
valuables in an unattended vehicle.
Whether it is a wallet, cellphone,
camera, laptop, GPS system, handbag
or even shopping and loose change --
take it with you, or at the very least
put it in the boot out of sight.
